Right now Overwatch has 31 playable heroes, with the latest released one – Sigma. The list is extremely diverse, we have a talking moon gorilla, a hamster in the giant mech, and many others. So why do not add another one? This time it would be a black strong woman that once lead Overwatch. At the Blizzcon 2019, Blizzard announced that the Sojourn will be released. But only with the release of Overwatch 2, and that will not be soon. But one thing I could say with 100% certainty – Sojourn will be the extremely popular champion during boost overwatch sessions.
Sojourn is a former member of the original Overwatch, organization that helped everyone around the world. At the cinematic of the Overwatch 2, you could clearly see that she will be added to the game. Right after the announce Jeff Kaplan explained some details why this hero would take so much time before the release.
Jeff said that the Echo and Sojourn were two heroes that supposed to be released in the original Overwatch, but they were postponed and here we will unveil the true reasons for this. Sojourn was always an incredibly important character for the whole Overwatch series and according to the recent news about the soon release of the second Overwatch, she will be postponed to these times. In the first Overwatch you could saw and hear her during the PvE event – Strom Rising, she leads you into Havana mission.
The very first time when she was noticed by fans in the 2016 year in the animated short called Recall. She appeared on the computer when Winston assembled Overwatch. Sojourn appeared among many other unknown characters. Since then theorycrafters, fans, and many common players waited for the release of this character, they even sent letters straight to Jeff Kaplan. But then Kaplan was unable to answer them without revealing the greater plan, and the slow rollout of Sojourn is part of it. Such a big company like Blizzard must follow the plan or everything will not go as intended.
Overwatch developers just could not reveal every hero because it will heavily damage the storytelling part of the game and that is why they are releasing only 4 heroes per year (balancing part is another major issue in these matters), no matter how the community will be upset with such news.
The whole team is hyped about new ideas that could be implemented to the new heroes. So it is not so hard to quickly add together some great ideas that the developers already have in their ming to release a new hero, but according to Jeff Kaplan, such an approach is unacceptable with the whole Overwatch game and Sojourn hero. As a contrast was used recently released hero – Sigma, it is not a key hero around whom a whole story could be built. If they will release Sojourn right now the whole plotline of Overwatch 2 will be ruined, and that is the price that could not be paid.
You must accept the fact that we will see the Sojourn only in the 2021 year, it is the approximate date of the release of Overwatch 2. But the longer is waiting the more desired will be the result!
