Basic Walks in Tango – What Is the Role of Walk in Tango

When you look at the tango dance form, you will notice that the whole dance form is about the male and the female lead walking around by moving their body to the music. Even though it looks as simple as it can be, it is one of the very difficult dance forms.

Do you wish to bring out the tango dancer in you? If yes, then you should check the Femeinity Ultimate Tango classes. You can avail complete information about the tango forms and mathematical models and how the logarithm of tango walk works. Visit their webpage to know more.

Basic Tango Walks

Tango dance form is all about walks. Walks are considered the basic building block in the world of tango dancing. There are two main basic kinds of walks in tango known as the right foot walk and the left foot walk. Balancing your body while focusing on the music is what tango is all about.

Here are some of the factors that make the tango walks different from the other ballroom dancing kinds.

  1. No rise and fall in the dance
  2. The articulated foot action is followed in the dance form
  3. The walks of tango are described like that of the staccato quality.
  4. All walks normally curve towards the left foot of both the partners
  5. The walks are like CBMP, where the left foot forward and right foot backward technique is used.

Forward Walking

The forward walking in tango dancing requires the right kind of preparation.

  • The starting position is considered as the zero position.
  • The tango dance will start from these zero positions and will extend in a line of axis.
  • The big toe will always stay in contact with the floor throughout the dance.
  • The free leg will be stretched in such a way that it is suspended freely in the air.
  • All bodyweight will be left on the leg that is in contact with the floor.

Transferring the Weight

  • Transfer of the weight is just like walking, where you will shift the body weight from one foot to another.
  • The weight shifting process will be done in the toe – metatarse – heel process.
  • The straight leg that is still in contact with the floor will carry the body weight.

Tango walk is not like a normal walk. When you look through the secrets of Argentine Tango walk taught in the tango classes, you will notice that the Tango code that is followed there will be just like that of the mathematical models.

“When a man is capable of doing tango walk successfully, his female partner will not mind dying in his embrace while dancing. However, if the man in the tango dance walks badly, then his female companion will wish that she had died rather than dancing with him”. This is the common sentence that you hear from almost all successful and famous tango dancers today.

Tango dance is all about one lead and the other follows. There is no masculinity or femininity in the dance form. One leads and one surrender to the other, and that is how the dance becomes a successful one.
